My child doesn't want to read
Sometimes a child hasn't found the right story yet. Other times, reading is tiring or difficult. Let's understand what's getting in the way and choose where to start.
Reading difficulty
They say there are too many pages. They find reading difficult. They love listening to stories but not reading on their own.Motivation
They get bored. We haven't found a subject that interests them. They only want comics. They get bored.
MotivationSometimes a child gets bored because the story hasn't hooked them yet. Books with action or humor from the very first page can change that.
What to try
- Choose books with strong humor or suspense right from the first page.
- Read the first chapter together out loud, then let them continue.
- Don't insist they finish a book that doesn't grab them — giving up is useful information.
