Dav Pilkey Dav Pilkey is an American author and illustrator, born in 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio, and lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington. As a child he had dyslexia and ADHD, and the character Captain Underpants was born while he sat at a desk in the school hallway. He is the author of the Captain Underpants and Dog Man series and received a Caldecott Honor in 1997. Other books by the author
